I’m Pregnant with twins! Now what?

Even though God gave me that vision a year ago with twins in my womb, it was still shocking when it was confirmed at 23 weeks.  Everything had to be quickly changed. I could not have a home birth with my midwife because in Florida it’s illegal for a midwife to deliver twins at home. I never expected to deliver at a hospital and now I had no choice. My midwife found me a nice doctor that would allow her to still participate in my care. Right around my 40th birthday she did my blood work and I learned that for the first time in my life, my thyroid was extremely low. The usual protocol for such things is a trip to the endocrinologist who prescribes a synthetic drug to raise your thyroid.

I refused going to the endocrinologist and instead drastically changed my already healthy diet. I also started taking numerous herbs. Thankfully I was able to get my thyroid where it needed to be without drugs.

I read every resource I could on twin pregnancies and they all advised eating a diet high in protein and iron. Eating became my job, I was determined to make my babies as big as possible and not become anemic. I ate lots of grass fed liver, beef and I drank sprirulina.

At the ultrasound it was discovered that our twins were identical boys, in separate sacs but they shared one placenta. The concern with these type of twins is that one would get more food than the other. Thankfully our twins were always at proportionate weights. My pregnancy was very healthy, the hardest thing was caring for my 2 & 3yr olds. Whenever I did too much my uterus would contract and eventually I couldn’t even raise my hands without my uterus contracting.

This pregnancy was very different from my first two and things would continue to change as my belly and the babies grew bigger.
